SILVER JUBILEE VISIT OF MOWLANA HAZAR IMAM

Over 15000 Ismailis gathered at Olympia on Tuesday July 5, 1983 to celebrate the Silver Jubilee. During the visit, Mowlana Hazar Imam had private meetings with institutions such as Oxfam, the Overseas Development Administrator and the University of London.

Mowlana Hazar Imam met students, volunteers and past jamati leaders on Wednesday July 6. Later on that evening, Mowlana Hazar Imam attended a dinner hosted by the National Council. On Thursday July 7, Mowlana Hazar Imam presented Degree certificates of the University of London to the students of the Institute of Ismaili Studies. The Durbar of Thursday July 7 was a truly emotional occasion for the jamat. Mowlana Hazar Imam and Begum Salimah were accompanied by the Noorani children, Princess Zahra, Prince Rahim and Prince Hussein. On this occasion, Mowlana Hazar Imam also bestowed the title of Diwan on Count Sir Eboo Pirbhai. Mowlana Hazar Imam expected that the Ismaili Centre would be ready for occupation before the end of 1983 and expressed that it would represent a status symbol of the Ismaili Community in the Western World.

The Editorial Board is in the process of compiling a pictorial souvenir or this memorable visit and jamati members will be notified of the publication in due course.
