BBC MONITORING INTERNATIONAL REPORTS: AGA KHAN GIVES 5M DOLLARS TO BRANCH UNIVERSITY IN KYRGYZSTAN

Bishkek, 30th August: Prince [Karim] Aga Khan IV [the leader of world Ismaili Muslims] will allocate 5m dollars for the
development of the programme of the University of Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan [a branch will be set up in Kyrgyzstan],
he said at the signing ceremony of an agreement on setting up the university. According to His Excellency, he announced
the same amount of money, 5m dollars in Dushanbe, at a similar ceremony at which an agreement was signed by him
and Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov. The money will be channelled to the development of the university's programme
in Tajikistan. The Aga Khan Development Foundation will invest 10m dollars in the development of the university's activity
and he wants "the University to open as soon as possible", as soon as these countries' parliamentarians ratify the above
mentioned agreement, the prince said.
