Yesterday, August 27, the spiritual leader of Ismailis of the world Prince Karim Aga Khan arrived in Dushanbe. According to information received from the Dushanbe office of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), the main purpose of the visit is signing of a Treaty on opening of International University, which will be of great significance for the population and culture of mountain societies of Central Asia.
During his visit to Tajikistan His Highness the Aga Khan will meet the Resident of the Republic of Tajikistan Emamali Rahmonov, the Prime Minister of the Republic Oqil Oqilov and other high-ranking officials of the Government and Parliament. Suggestion on opening the University is based on recommendations of international commission, which was formed in May 1995, after the signing of the Agreement on cooperation. The last visit of the Aga Khan to the Republic of Tajikistan was held in September 1998. His Highness will depart from Dushanbe for Bishkek on August 29, 2000.
