Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah presided
at a meeting in Bombay held to protest against
the treatment of Indians in South Africa. The Quaid-e-Azam and
many other leaders were also present.
February 1940 - Mowlana Sultan
Mohamed Shah visited the Jamats of Karachi, Pakistan between
February 4th and 7th and the Jamats of Mumbai, India various
times between February 9th and March 10th 1940.

April - August 1945 Mowlana Sultan
Mohamed Shah visited various centres in East Africa such as Kampala,
Nairobi, Kisumu, Musoma, Dar es Salaam, Mozambique, Zanzibar etc. and gave
Holy Deedar to Jamats during this Jubilee year.

Mohamed Shah delivered a speech at
the Mission Conference held in Dar es Salaam.
August 4, 1945 - Mowlana Sultan
Mohamed Shah and Mata Salamat landed from a flying boat and made
their first visit to Lourenco
Marques, Mozambique.
August 6, 1945 - Mowlana Sultan
Mohamed Shah and Mata Salamat and other dignitaries left for Johannesburg,
South Africa. On arrival there, they were greeted by President Vazir
Allibhai V. Keshavji.

Mohamed Shah later held a press conference at the Langham Hotel
where he said to the reporters, "...Here I am. Shoot! What do you
want to know?"

March 10, 1946 - Mowlana Sultan
Mohamed Shah was weighed against Diamonds in Bombay at Brabourne
Stadium. Also in attendance were Om Habibah Begum and Prince Sadrudin.

Mohamed Shah visited East Africa Jamats such as Kisumu, Lindi, Tananarive
(Madagascar), Nairobi, Mombasa, Kampala etc.
August 17, 1946 - The Diamond
Jubilee Celebrations are held in Dar-es-Salaam. National Geographic
printed the first ever colour pictures of these celebrations.(link

1946 - Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah bestowed
the title of Mata Salamat on Om Habibah Begum.
At a reception
in honour of His Royal Highness in Cape Town, South Africa, General Smuts
said that it was men like the Aga Khan who could, if given the opportunity,
turn the course of world events in different direction and "build
up a society in which justice, fair play, common sense and decent virtues
will be triumphant and in which wars will not be needed as arbitrators
of fate."

with Governor General Ghulam Mohammed.
Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah attended
a reception in London in 1947 where he met
the leader of the Bohora Community, Yusuf Bhai Saheb. The minister
of the Jhabua State was also present.
1948 - Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah's
horse 'My Love' won the 1948 Derby.
After attending prayers at the Paris
Mosque, Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah posed for a photograph
with his son, Prince Sadrudin, and his grandsons Prince Karim and Prince
Amyn Mohammed.

a rally in Karachi where the Ismaili Girl
Guides gave an outstanding performance. The Ismaili
Scouts and the Volunteers also gave a performance.

Mata Salamat met with the Pakistani Prime
Minister and Begum Mohammed Ali in Paris.
Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah also met
with H.E.Habib I. Rahimtoola who was then the Ambassador
for Pakistan in France. Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah and Begum Om
Habibah Mata Salamat met the late Prime
Minister Liaquat Ali Khan and Begum Liaquat Ali Khan and at a function
in Karachi in 1950.
Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah attended
the Karachi Municipal Corporation and here he gave a reply to the
welcome address.

at her residence in Pakistan.

February 1951 - Karachi, Pakistan:
Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah said, "Arabic, as a national language,
will give you immediate contact not only with forty million Arabic-speaking
people of independent nations on your West, but the other sixty million
more or less Arabic-speaking people who are not independent but who exist
in Africa. Right up to the Atlantic, not only in the North, but as far
South as Nigeria and Gold Coast, and in all the Sudans and in East Africa,
Arabic is known to large numbers of people. If we turn to the East, Islam
has prospered on Arabic among the eighty million Muslims of Indonesia and
Malaya right up to the Phillipines."
February 1951 - Mowlana Sultan
Mohamed Shah visited Iran Jamats (links!) for the first time with
Mata Salamat Om Habibah Begum. They both attended the marriage ceremonies
of Shah-en-Shah of Iran. Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah gave Holy Deedar
to thousands of Ismailis in Mahalat.

for the celebration of Platinum Jubilee to Ismaili representatives
from Pakistan, Burma, Bharat and Africa.

Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah gave his
condolences to Begum Liaquat Ali Khan at the demise
of Quaid-I-Millat
During this visit, Mowlana Sultan Mohamed
Shah, Mata Salamat and Mr. Zahid Husain
visited the treasury vaults of the State Bank of Pakistan where
they viewed the display of Pakistani notes and coins.

a joyful company at a dinner function in
Karachi.
Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah also met
with H.E. Mohan Sinha Mehta, Indian High
Commissioner in Pakistan and other diplomats
Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah gave aspeech
at the Institut e of International Affairs in Karachi
Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah also visited
the Iranian Embassy in Pakistan and there met with the
dignitaries and also met with the Indonesian
Charge d'Affaires
Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah at the airport,
leaving for France after his visit to Pakistan.
Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah had a group
photo taken on April 1, 1951 at Cairo when
Ismaili Leaders from Europe, Pakistan, India, Burma and East Africa
gathered together to request permission to start preparations for Platinum
Jubilee.
When the "Times", London made some unfair
allegations against Islam and the Muslims in a leading article in October
1951, His Royal Highness sent a spirited reply to that newspaper
which was published in its next issue of November 6, 1951. He explained
that it was because of the spirit of tolerance of Islam that even
the smallest Christian and Jewish minorities had survived and kept all
their doctrines during the thousand years of Muslim rule. (link

Salamat attended a tea party given in their honour at the Metropole, Karachi.
The tea party was given by H.E.
the Iranian Masoud Moazad on January 23, 1952 (link to 024msms)
During one of the races, Mowlana Sultan
Mohamed Shah made a distribution of the prize money of 20,000 pounds
to be divided amongst the jockey, the trainees and the stable boys after
his horse Tulyar won the Derby in May 1952
Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah delivered
a speech on the economy of Pakistan, also
present was the Begum, the Mir of Hunza and Khwaja Nazimuddin, Khan
of Kalat.
July 1953 - Mowlana Sultan Mohamed
Shah wrote in 'The Times' newspaper of England, "For as long as we can
foresee, the British people are the trustees of the population of East
Africa, irrespective of race and colour...There can be no real union
in East Africa among the races if any portion of them believes that the
trustees are divided or that they have particular favourite wards."
Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah met with
Mr. Charles Chaplin at the 1953 Cannes Film
Festival
Mr. Oliver Lyttelton, the Colonial
Secretary met with Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah during a party
given to several hundred Ismaili Muslims in London in July
(link: same picture as above!!) 1953.
Third auspicious visit to Pakistan
for the celebration of Platinum Jubilee
at Karachi, the Federal Capital of Pakistan.
A token ceremony of the Platinum Jubilee
was also celebrated in Cairo at the Semiramis hotel. Present at this
ceremony was Prince Aly Khan.
In Bombay, the Platinum Jubilee
was also celebrated and a Platinum Plaque
was presented to Prince Aly Khan
1954 - Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah had
"The Memoirs of Aga Khan" published by Cassell & Company Ltd.,
London, England.
In his Last Will and Testament, he appointed his grandson, the elder of the two sons of Prince Aly Salomon Khan, Shah Karim Al-Husayni as the 49th Imam and Pir of all Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims.
